Health Testing for Paloma

Paloma's OFA came back GOOD. Her Elbows are Normal, as is her Thyroid. Her CERF (eyes) was clear, too.

If you haven't had your dog's hips done yet, now's a good time to start thinking about it. See the OFA website at www.offa.org for more information.

Rose City Classic

Paloma went WB for 2 points under Judge Alberto Berrios on Thursday. She went Best of Winners for 2 points under Judge Desmond J Murphy on Friday. She went Open Bitch, no points under Judge Linda L Robley and Judge Pluis Davern on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.  Her next opportunity for points will be in Albany, February 10 - 14.

This is Paloma during the Clark County Kennel Club shows in December 2010.

Paloma

Paloma went in for her OFA hips, elbows and thyroid tests this morning. I picked her up a little after 2pm. She cried the entire way home and took a nice long nap once we arrived. When she awoke, she was still a little whiny. She finally perked up at 9pm and played fetch with me. She even grabbed my wrist as she usually does. I don't remember Marley being so groggy after her OFAs but each dog is different.  Now we wait for the results.

Merry Christmas

We, Hannah, Paloma and Marley enjoyed a quiet Christmas Eve and Day. Mom and Dad didn't decide to put up a tree until Christmas Eve day and then only put lights, a bow and a kitchen angel on top! Mom was pretty busy this December and didn't even get her Christmas cards out, let alone get the decorations out of the attic to put on the tree. We hear she is planning to send New Years cards instead. We shall see!  In the meantime, we are excited to hear that we are getting a nephew in May!! Yep, Mom saw the ultrasound and got to hear his little heart beat! We hope you had a Merry Christmas and that the new year will bring you lots of joy, health and happiness along with fun things to do with your owners!

Take care ~ HMP!!

CHIC and Health Testing

Paloma had her eyes CERF'd (Canine Eye Registration Foundation)  at Saturday's Greater Clark County Kennel Club's dogshow. This is one of the requirements for getting a CHIC number. For information and health checks necessary,  please see this reference on the Vizsla Club of America's website.  Canine Health Information Center (CHIC)

Winter and the Possibility of Electrocution

I recently read an article where a beloved pet in Seattle was electrocuted when it walked on a lampost cover.  Pet Tragically Electrocuted  That dog's electrocution reminded me of another dog I had read about in New York a few years ago. Apparently there have been several deaths including some humans as well. Since Crawford lives in Manhattan and is spending his first winter there, I decided to include this link Stray Voltage  Most of us will not be affected by this but as winter arrives and the snow falls, the combination of melting snow and the salt that is put down on sidewalks makes for a possibly deadly outcome.  Please be careful when walking your dogs!

Happy Thanksgiving!

We would like to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving!  We are thankful for each one of you; for the health issues you've made it through and for the love you give to your families. We are thankful that each one of you is in a home where you are appreciated, loved and well cared for.  We are spending the holiday in snowy and cold Central Oregon where the dogs go crazy for snowballs and then enjoy watching the rabbits from the window where it's warm.

~ Blessings ~
