We are only into April and 2020 has already been a stressful year for me aside from the current COVID-19 pandemic. Two days after Christmas Bree, the boys and I drove out to visit my Mom. The day after we got there, she fell while walking her dog. Planned way before all this happened, we were hoping to add a new pup to the family. Those pups arrived on New Year's Eve; I was so wrapped up with taking care of Mom, I hardly noticed their arrival. However, I had told Karen I'd be open to the prospect but the pup would need to be able to fit in with the already established pack. The next few months caring for Mom were like living on a rollercoaster. Brianna, David, and Vivian kept me well informed of what was going on with the litter and even sent photos of the one they thought was coming home to us. Well, at the end of February, temperament testing was done and a week later the structure evaluation was complete. I poured over all the notes Karen had sent me along with notes from a long time Vizsla friend who had made her observations. As it turned out, the one they thought was coming home with us met a lot of the requirements I was looking for. Her structure evaluation put her at the top of the list meaning she was an excellent show prospect and her temperament test showed she was curious and outgoing with the qualities that might make for a good bird dog. All that remains to be seen but I can tell you, she's smart and is catching on with her training quickly. She likes to sit on our heads and walks between the couches like a cat albeit sometimes a clumsy one. She will pull the blanket with her mouth until it's just right and she nests. These are characteristics I have not seen in my line. She's totally smitten with Raven and Raven with her. Paloma and Sparrow are beginning to warm up to her. It's only a matter of time before they accept her as one of their own.
She arrived on February 29th with David from Portland. She made herself comfortable with all the family who was in town rallying around Mom. Two days later, Mom passed and although I'll never know if Mom heard me, I did introduce her to Wren. Wren did benefit from having so much family around in the socialization category. A blessing now that we are unable to go out and about.
