CHIC and Health Testing

Paloma had her eyes CERF'd (Canine Eye Registration Foundation)  at Saturday's Greater Clark County Kennel Club's dogshow. This is one of the requirements for getting a CHIC number. For information and health checks necessary,  please see this reference on the Vizsla Club of America's website.  Canine Health Information Center (CHIC)

Winter and the Possibility of Electrocution

I recently read an article where a beloved pet in Seattle was electrocuted when it walked on a lampost cover.  Pet Tragically Electrocuted  That dog's electrocution reminded me of another dog I had read about in New York a few years ago. Apparently there have been several deaths including some humans as well. Since Crawford lives in Manhattan and is spending his first winter there, I decided to include this link Stray Voltage  Most of us will not be affected by this but as winter arrives and the snow falls, the combination of melting snow and the salt that is put down on sidewalks makes for a possibly deadly outcome.  Please be careful when walking your dogs!

Happy Thanksgiving!

We would like to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving!  We are thankful for each one of you; for the health issues you've made it through and for the love you give to your families. We are thankful that each one of you is in a home where you are appreciated, loved and well cared for.  We are spending the holiday in snowy and cold Central Oregon where the dogs go crazy for snowballs and then enjoy watching the rabbits from the window where it's warm.

~ Blessings ~

The Girls' New Picture Above

On Saturday, October 30th, the girls, Karen and I went to PetUtopia to support Rat Bones Rat Terrier Rescue. For a small donation, Kathi Lamm, Master Photographer, took their photos. I picked two 5x7's up on Sunday and was super pleased with how well she captured them.

The jewelry being worn by Marley and Paloma was purchased from Kate Payne, VCA Rescue Coordinator (now retired) at VCA Nationals in Omaha, Nebraska.  She made the necklaces in honor of her girl, Princess Bobbie, who loved getting dressed up. Kate split the earnings 50/50 with one of the rescue groups. I think that year's winner was Diane Shearer in Pennsylvania.

The credit for the photo goes to Kathi Lamm, Lamm Photography, www.lammphoto.com.

If you're in the Portland, OR, area, give her a call. She also did wonders with Karen's last eight puppy litter.

Take care and I hope you are enjoying Fall!

A Very Special Wish

This great, big, virtual steak is for Ziggy, Patriot, Jasper, Loki, Crawford and Paloma to help them celebrate their 2nd birthday. I know some of you are relieved there will be no loud presents in the mail this year!!

You have made us proud! You have grown into obedient, loving and talented Vizslas! In this last year, you have earned three Junior Hunter titles and one Championship. Two of you have enjoyed hunting trips and adventures with your men. Two of you have enjoyed the thrill of agility and seem to like it quite a bit. Two of you have mastered the art of air travel. All of you are some of the best looking Vizslas on the planet!

We love you and look forward to the stories of how you celebrated your birthday. We hope you will send pictures.

Congratulations and we wish you another year of fun and success -
Marc, Audrey, Marley and Hannah

New Champion

UPDATE: It's official!!  Loki's AKC Championship was approved mid-September. He was moved to Best of Breed for the Saturday Longview-Kelso Show and was Select Dog which earned him his first major (4 points) towards his Grand Championship.

Pending AKC recording and approval, we are proud to announce that Loki finished his Championship by going Best of Winners at the Trail's End Vizsla Club of Oregon's 2010 Specialty.

Thank you, Steve and Jamie, for letting Loki come out to play show dog.  Suzanne really had fun showing him to his championship and I enjoyed having him around the house from time to time.

From the Show Ring to the Field - Loki gets two pheasants on opening day on Sauvie Island. Steve says "He not only looks good but he can hunt, too!!"
Congratulations Loki!!
